Jondo Obi

Director

Jondo Obi has served as Director of the Cayman Islands Red Cross (CIRC) since 2003, leading the organisation through two decades of growth, transformation, and humanitarian impact.

Before joining the CIRC, Jondo worked with several United Nations agencies across Central and East Africa, including the World Food Programme and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She holds a Master’s degree in International Business Administration and brings a strong background in programme management and community resilience.

Under her leadership, the Cayman Islands Red Cross has expanded from a small local branch into a respected national humanitarian agency, with more than 200 volunteers actively engaged in disaster response, first aid training, and community outreach. Jondo’s guidance was instrumental during critical moments, such as the aftermath of Hurricane Ivan, when she coordinated extensive relief and recovery efforts.

In recognition of her outstanding service and leadership, Jondo Obi was awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2023. Her vision continues to focus on empowering communities, strengthening local capacity, and upholding the core Red Cross values of humanity, neutrality, and compassion.
